Richmond gum disease treatment

Gum disease affects the bone in your jaw. In mild cases the gums are constantly puffy and may bleed when you brush.

As the disease progresses, the bone around the roots of the teeth begins to dissolve.

Bone loss is normal to some degree as we age. But it is responsible for the eventual loss of teeth.

In the bad old days, people used to routinely lose their teeth by the time they were 50 or 60. So that’s why grandpa wears a denture.

But hopefully you don’t have to go that route in many cases (although I do have to say, today’s denture that I’m doing is loads better because I can make it anchored quite nicely by doing a dental implant on each side…but that’s another story.)

What we can often do is gum therapy that does not require surgery like they used to do. Gum therapy cleans up the deposits that are in the gum pockets. You can’t really do much with a toothbrush to get at these deposits. There are bacteria that infect these pockets quite deeply. The bacteria create waste products that dissolve the bone.

We can do Richmond gum disease treatment to prevent further bone loss and get rid of infection in your gums.

I also want to talk to you about how dental implants can help you keep the rest of your natural teeth even if have lost teeth or have crowns that need to be replaced.
