If you have no choice but to get a bridge, crown or dentures. Or there is an old fitting that needs to be fixed, your dentist will almost certainly give you implants. Over here at Richmond, we refer to them as Richmond implants. Richmond dentist Fotolia_1291583_XS.jpg

A dentist has great flexibility when he uses implants because they perform like the root of your natural tooth. The implant has a piece of metal that protudes and bonds the implant into your jaw bone. As the bone material in the jaw develops, it surrounds the metal protrusion. This is exactly what happens to the natural roots that keep your other teeth firmly in place. The upshot is you have a solid bond between the implant and the jaw. The implant is also important for the wellbeing of your jaw, which would otherwise possibly crumble. The bone in your jaw will benefit from the implant and continue as a healthy part of your body.

To help with the implant, the Richmond implants dentist will give you a bone graft. This is in order to make sure that the implant is secure. Many general dentists lack this skill so they might tell you to see a specialst dentist who does have these skills. The specialist would perform the bone graft and implant. But that is not the end of it. Once the specialist is done with you, you have to return to your first dentist, who puts the finishing touches by fitting you with the bridge, crown or dentures. Instead of seeing two dentists, you would obviously prefer to see just one who has a range of dental skills and can do everything for you. The Richmond implants dentist places the implant with skill and knowledge. You won't have any problems with just one dentist, who you will grow to trust during the treatment program. Furthermore, there will not be any confusion in terms of treatment with one dentist. This may not be the case with more than one dentist, in which there is an opportunity for miscommunication.

When it comes to giving you a crown, bridge or dentures, which includes first putting in an implant, it can take as many as four visits. The first time is when the implant is placed in your mouth. The second one is when the stitches from the implant procedure are removed. The next trip to the clinic is so the dentist can create a mold for the construction of the denture, crown or bridge. The fourth and final visit is when the crown, bridge or dentures are installed.
