Ahead of mounting a dental implant in my patients, I first look at the state of the person's gums and jawbone. I have to guarantee that they are in good physical shape. I have to take care of them if they aren't healthy prior to doing anything else. Richmond dentist Fotolia_7158616_XS.jpg

When it's simply a case of your gums bleeding, then we can solve the problem with a pill or two. But if it's something more major, such as the gum being worn down, or in the case of a widespread injury in your jaw area, we may have to take other measures before I can set your implants.

Bones or bone prosthetics are sometimes used in order to make the implant area for the Richmond dental implant root more stable. I always make sure to secure the base ahead of beginning the implant process. I think of it like building a house. The foundation is always checked to make sure that it is strong and able to hold up under changing demands.

Once we have fixed the jawbone, then the implant roots will be fixed through a surgical procedure. Here in my Richmond implant dentistry center, I take extreme care and caution during this part. The success of this phase will tell if the dental implant will remain in place for any period of time.

After the procedure is done, I schedule a time for them to come back in, so I can check whether the jawbone and soft tissue are accepting the implant as expected. Resonance frequency analysis, x-rays or palpation are just some of the methods used to check the implant. Then we'll know if it's time for the next phase of the process of putting in the attachment to the crown or if we should delay in order to make the foundation even stronger.

When you come to see me at my Richmond dental implant office, I will be very thorough right from the start. I like to be sure that what I do and the crown you have implanted will not wear out over time.
