Richmond Broken Dental Crown — Can It Be Fixed?

I have a dental office in Richmond and I hope you make a beeline for it the moment you notice your dental crown is broken or fractured. Richmond dentist Fotolia_7053191_XS.jpg

Crowns do break. The ones I use in my Richmond dental crown office are very durable. In fact, they could give you 15 years. They could last even longer, or they could weaken earlier.

Some of the latest crown materials may have a shorter lifespan if you are one of those people who give their teeth a hard time. Do you grind your teeth at night? This causes problems for crowns. Lots of people grind though they probably don't know it.

And you also get those who chew forcefully, or crunch on ice.

Fracturing of a dental crown is likely that the porcelain has weakened. Or at least the part of the crown made from ceramic. You probably won't find cracks on gold or metal alloys because they can adapt to the various forces of your jaws.

As a result, these kinds of materials are the best for backing up your dental crowns.

The drawback with metals like gold is their appearance. The answer is to fuse porcelain with the metal crown. But to make it even nicer, use a crown made entirely of ceramic. But this is more fragile than crowns with metal in them.

The best thing about porcelain is how real they look. It is because of its color and texture. But they may not be as resistant to the great pressures you impose each time you crunch your teeth, either from chewing or grinding.

And since they are very rigid, a crack in on section threatens other parts of the crown.

As soon as a ceramic crown disintegrates, you need to replace it with a new one. Leaving broken crowns alone is not the answer because it could result in an infection. If we do not remedy this right away, we may have more than crown problems. We may need to restore what is left of your tooth. Probably with a dental implant.

My office can help you with any crown problems. If you are a Richmond resident, and you have a fractured Richmond dental crown, I really hope to come to my office and let us fix your problem.

(We must, though, convince you to receive a local and, like any injection, that requires a needle…but even so, you will be wondering whether or not we have even given you one…you will be shocked because you won't even know when we pull the needle out.)
