There are of course two major categories of dentistry. Restorative dentistry aims to bring your teeth back to what they are ideally supposed to look like and feel like and work like.

Roughly speaking, restorative is for health and cosmetic for looks.

But like all such categorizations, this one is less than accurate. A lot of cosmetic dentistry has a restorative aim as well. For example, we may whiten your teeth which is cosmetic but then we will also straighten them with the new Invisalign system that is virtually invisible. Your teeth become straighter, which is good for both looks and for your health.

And we do thin, conservative veneers that remove very little of your natural teeth. We can change the length, the color and the shape of your natural teeth for an amazing improvement without doing anything much to your natural, God-given teeth.

Now, take this photo of Peter Frampton. I don't know if you know this, but Mr. Frampton came out with an album that was one of the all time bestselling live albums. It sold 16 million worldwide.

If you were alive in 1976 you couldn't go anywhere without hearing Peter Frampton and songs from his album Frampton Comes Alive.

I do think he has good teeth and although I've never met Mr. Frampton or treated him, he may have dental veneers or these may be completely real teeth we are looking at.
